Have you seen the Disney movie ENCANTO?
Encanto came out in theatres in November 2021 and was on Disney+ already the next month. My kids kept asking to see it because all their friends were raving about it, so our family finally saw it in January. And I have to admit – I was impressed! It took me a little while to get into it, but by halfway I was hooked. It really is a magical movie with memorable music (did I just use that many m’s?) and the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has been a HUGE hit.

Bruno is a member of the Madrigal family, who live together in the Casa Casita. All of the Madrigal family members (except one) have a special “gift” – and Bruno’s gift is the ability to see the future.
After Bruno receives a vision, he places it on a green glowing tablet. The movie’s main character Maribel finds her vision from Bruno in pieces in sand in his room at the Casa Casita.
To replicate this scene, here is a recipe for cupcakes made to look like these broken vision pieces!
The cupcakes have green candy glass on top, made to represent Bruno’s visions. And there is brown sugar sprinkled on top to represent the sand!
These are fun to make and enjoy! They’re perfect for an ENCANTO birthday party, or movie night, or any other time.
Here’s the recipe! For a printable version, scroll down toward the end.
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” Encanto Cupcakes
Makes 12 cupcakes
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Rest time for the candy glass: 2 hours
Ingredients
For this recipe you’ll need:
Cupcakes!
- 12 cupcakes prepared, chocolate or flavor of your choosing
- 16 oz container of vanilla frosting (Cream cheese flavor is fine too)
- Green food coloring, 12 drops
- OPTIONAL: Brown sugar, enough to sprinkle on your cupcakes. (about 1 – 1/2 cups to 1 cup)
Candy glass:
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 TBSP water
- 5 – 1/2 TBSP light corn syrup
- 6 drops green food coloring
- Pinch of cream of tartar
Supplies:
Piping tip (you can use any, but I used a large round)
How to make the candy glass:
In a medium size saucepan, add the sugar, water, light corn syrup, green food coloring, and cream of tartar. Mix using a whisk.
Bring your ingredients to a boil while making sure to whisk continually.
Continue to whisk and boil until you reach the temperature of 275°.
Once it has reached optimal temperature, pour your contacts onto a small to medium size cookie sheet. You will want it to be the same height and thinness, so using the back of a spoon or a heat safe spatula, level out your candy.
Allow the candy to cool on your cookie sheet for at least two hours.
How to make the frosting:
While your candy is cooling, prepare your frosting.
Add 12 drops of green food coloring to your frosting. (You can add more or less depending on your preference.) Mix well together. Add to your piping bag your piping tip, and then your frosting. Cut the tip of your piping bag and allow the tip to fall into the hole and push your frosting down.
Pipe your cupcakes.
If you choose to add your brown sugar to represent the sand, sprinkle that on now.
Once the two hours is up, and your glass candy is ready, break the glass using the back of a spoon.
Continue to break until you reached your desired size for each shard of glass.
Stick 3 to 5 pieces of glass to top your cupcake.
Enjoy!
