I recently tried out a new grocery delivery service based right here in the Twin Cities called “Buncha.”
It’s new, and has been featured locally on KARE 11, the Star Tribune and more. They’ve been well-funded by a variety of tech investors and they’re growing super fast. It actually was originally called “Pikup” but they changed the name to “Buncha.”
What sets them apart from other grocery delivery services is that delivery only costs $1.45! And it’s $1.45 no matter how much you order. And there are NO MARKUPS!
How is it so cheap?
It works like a co-op but it’s a delivery service – you sign up for deliveries that are in your neighborhood, which saves on gas and money. This is their goal – to reinvent grocery deliveries by scheduling deliveries by neighborhood, which lowers carbon emissions AND saves everyone money.
Every neighborhood has different deliveries each week, so you might have Cub, Costco and ALDI in your neighborhood, or you may have Costco and Lund’s & Byerly’s, or you may have other stores. There are so many possibilities!
As the number of users grows, the numbers of stores and deliveries grows as well. And when you use the app, you can invite friends to use it too, which may give you a discount on yours!
My experience trying Buncha
I tried out Buncha myself!
First, I checked out what deliveries were available for my home, and at my workplace. I know you can get a delivery to wherever you want, so keep that in mind if it works better for you to get your groceries at work or at a family member’s house.
The deliveries were different for different locations I entered in, but I chose to try a Cub Foods order.
(To clarify – it’s not the grocery store that’s delivering your food. It’s a shopper/driver for Buncha.)
I placed an order for Cub delivery. There were TONS of store items – in fact, I don’t think there was anything in the store that wasn’t on the app. I even found my favorite Cashew Chicken Salad from the deli! Of course I added that and a few interesting items that I had never even heard of, like Cauliflower Garlic Breadsticks from the frozen section.
The prices were accurate – nothing was marked up!
It was actually fun to grocery shop on my phone. I did it while in bed one night, and it was super easy. I just added the items and checked out, but you can place your order THE SAME DAY. Just be sure to check the latest time you can order.

Communicate with your shopper!
As my shopper was picking up my items, I got updates from Buncha whenever an item was out of stock. But the good thing was that I could text or call my shopper, and I even asked my shopper if they could swap an item for one that was out of stock. They texted me back “Got it!” So I was happy to get a substitute item.
Delivery
My grocery items were delivered in bags that keep the food fresh and cold. So you can have your food delivered even if you’re not home, though it’s best to be there or have someone there.
Do you have to be a Costco member to order from Costco?
No! This is one really cool thing about the app. You can order from Costco, even if you’re not a member!
There IS a place to enter your member number, though you don’t have to.
What I love about Buncha
There is a lot I love about Buncha! It’s easy, it saves money, and it saves time!
I also love that there are in-app discounts galore. My discount is the BEST deal you’ll find (see below!), but there are other in-app discounts as well. Once you sign up, you’ll get more discounts for future orders, like $10 off a $50 purchase.
What I hope Buncha becomes
Buncha worked great for me, and I’m planning to use it again, but there are a couple things I hope for as it grows.
I know the Buncha team is working on expanding this app very quickly, and I asked them about applying coupons and discounts. Though the app can’t apply coupons, or discounts (like the RedCard 5% discount at Target), they are working on making this possible in the future. But their in-app discounts are actually probably better, so you’re actually saving more with Buncha than you probably would with coupons.
Also, I hope they add more stores soon. There are some neighborhoods that don’t have many deliveries set up yet, though I know this is changing. But the more people who sign up, the more they can expand it. So sign up and tell your friends!
What else you should know
One thing I didn’t think about when placing my first order is tipping the shopper/driver. There is an option to tip your shopper and driver, and I did. But note that this will add to your order’s cost. They recommend $10 per order, though you can add any amount you wish, or none at all. Just know that there is that option!
