
Every year there are fun places to visit in the Twin Cities this Mother’s Day weekend where moms and grandmas get in FREE. This year is a little different due to COVID, but there are still fun, free (and cheap) things to do! Of course, you could be like me and be just fine napping in bed all day! But if you’re looking for family fun, here are some ideas:

Como Zoo. Free but open by reservation only, so plan ahead!
Crayola Experience. Moms get to go FREE on Saturday and Sunday! Moms receive FREE admission with a purchase of one full-priced child admission ticket. Valid onsite only 5/8-5/9/2021. Reservations are not required for free admission offers. Not valid with other offers or previous purchases. Full price admission ticket must be purchased at the admissions counter when mentioning this offer.

Fishing – It’s Take-a-Mom Fishing Weekend! Moms can fish free without a license this weekend both Saturday and Sunday. During the weekend, mothers can fish only for species that have open fishing seasons. (For residents of Minnesota.)
Friends School Plant Sale – May 6-9. This year the sale will be outdoors. YOU MUST HAVE A RESERVED TIME TO SHOP AT THE SALE THIS YEAR. Signup for in-person shopping is on their website, however shopping times except during the volunteer pre-sale are now full unless someone drops their time. Sunday signup is not open yet, and is explained here. The Friends School Plant Sale is a fund-raiser for the Friends School of Minnesota, a small Quaker K – 8 school in Saint Paul.
Landmark Center – Sunday, 11:00am – 5:00pm. The annual Mother’s Day Concert from the Saint Paul Civic Symphony is virtual for one more year. Using previously recorded performances, symphony fans can enjoy the music as they celebrate the mothers in their lives at home or wherever they choose. Free.
Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Sunday, May 9th is this month’s Family Day at the MIA from 11:00am – 5:00pm. The entire event is free. This year it will all be VIRTUAL. The theme is “Building Bridges.”
Minneapolis Farmer’s Market and St. Paul Farmer’s Market are open! They’re both open Saturdays and Sundays now.
Minnesota Zoo – They’re open limited hours, and it’s Farm Babies time! If you can’t go in person, you can learn about Farm Babies online.
SeaQuest in Roseville has some AWESOME deals on Groupon right now! Get 4 tickets and tokens for as low as $43.60 right now.
Train Day. Saturday, May 8th is Train Day! Have fun learning about trains at the Minnesota Transportation Museum. Not free, but a great way to support the museum.
