This week our family visited the new Ice Palace Maze in Stillwater, Minnesota, and it was a perfect winter family outing!
It’s a winter playground and it’s outside the Zephyr Theatre in downtown Stillwater.
The Ice Palace Maze is a half-mile long, has 8-foot-tall walls, and there are fun things to discover throughout like sculptures and even ice thrones. It’s made of 1500 real ice blocks, and even has 36-foot ice slides at the end that you can go down if you want!
This attraction will be here January 22nd through March 7th, 2021, weather permitting.
“Visiting our Ice Palace MAZE will be a fun, safe, family-focused way to celebrate winter,” said Calyssa Hall, The Zephyr Theatre’s executive director. “We hope it will bring a lot of joy to Stillwater residents and visitors.”
It’s open during the day and evening. We went at 6pm and it was lit up so pretty! There were also fires burning for roasting s’mores – or just keeping warm.
Watch my video recap of our visit!
There were many sponsors for this event.
We loved going through and finding all the sculptures and surprises along the way!
We also loved that we could go inside the theatre and warm up with some hot cocoa and cake pops!
We even met Elsa!!!
We were there probably about 45 minutes, and we went through the maze twice. What’s nice is that you can warm up inside the theatre building, or by the fires, and there’s even an ice bar and drinks for the adults.
Tips:
- I recommend everyone wears snow pants! They keep you warm and make going down the slide so much better. My kids wore snow pants – I wore warm jeans but snow pants would have been good.
- It’s fun for all ages so bring your whole family or group! You are given a map of the maze when you enter, but we didn’t use ours. It was fun just to figure out the way. It wasn’t hard – we took a lot of wrong turns, but it wasn’t big enough to get lost.
- Bring money for snacks which are very tempting! The hot cocoa is $3, the cake pops are $2, and s’mores “kits” are $4. There are also other menu options and alcoholic beverages.
- Due to COVID, they limit the event to 100 people at a time. Masks of course are required. Get your tickets online in advance before they sell out!
