Planning a wedding is extremely exciting! However, it’s worth noting that it can be even more stressful than it is exciting. In fact, 50% of women find planning their wedding more stressful than they imagined, with a reported 11 hours each week spent planning.
Here are some great tips that should help you save some money on your wedding in 2020 and beyond:
Do research early on before every purchase
Rather than just buying the first item online whenever you’re shopping for something specific, you need to breathe, take a pause, and actually spend some time doing some research. More than 34% of desktop searches and 62.5% of mobile searches are zero-click searches.
It’s best to stick to buying from organizations that have a solid reputation, a strong brand, and years and years of experience. It’s no secret that consistent branding across all channels increases revenue by 23%, so make sure you’re taking the time to search online for legitimate companies before buying any product or service.
Additionally, it’s always a great idea to reach out to references online. This will help you not only avoid scammers but also find out exactly what kind of quality this particular company offers.
Start with a well-defined, realistic budget
Maybe you’ve been planning for this day your entire life. That’s great! I’m sure you’ll be able to incorporate certain aspects of your dream wedding form when you were just a kid! But… your wedding visions might’ve been a little… grandiose back then. For instance, it might not be fiscally responsible to have your entire wedding party arrive on unicorns. Cuts are going to have to be made — so you might have to settle for only one or two magical unicorns.
Fantasy characters aside, you have to make sure you develop a realistic budget and stick to it no matter what. Yout want to have an amazing day and night, of course! But it’s not worth sacrificing your financial future for a single day. Instead, carefully plan out all the financial aspects of your big day and make sure you can have everything covered. If not, even more magical unicorns will have to go!
Get a little creative when it comes to food and utensils
Make sure the venue you’re booking doesn’t require you to use its own catering service. If you have to, you might be out of luck. But if not, rather than hiring an expensive catering service, think about serving all the food at the reception yourself!
Sure, you are going to be a little preoccupied throughout the day. But maybe you have a skilled grillmaster in your family. Or maybe just a close friend (who isn’t a part of your wedding party) can handle grilling duties for the night! You’ll be able to have a magical evening with all kinds of delicious foods for much cheaper than hiring a professional catering service. Stick with the classics: burgers, hot dogs, veggies, and some chicken breast will do the trick!
Don’t hire a large band or expensive DJ
It’s a wedding. People are going to dance and have fun with some nice speakers and a solid Spotify playlist. You’ll probably want a little more than this, though, which is fine, but don’t opt for an expensive DJ or a big band.
Instead, do a little research around your town to find out if there are some quality bands that are charging a significant amount less than some competitors. You might even be able to hire a friends’ band for real cheap! Just make sure you go over the setlist and a few ground rules. Heavy metal, for example, might not be the best option for your romantic evening. But who knows, maybe that’s exactly what you’re looking for!
This is a stressful time but it doesn’t have to be as bad as you’re making it. Take a deep breath, take a few more, and sit down and spend some time to really think about how to make this wedding special without breaking the bank! Have fun and congratulations!
