As streaming services become more popular, Disney+ has now launched today as another option alongside Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix.
Disney+ is a new ad-free streaming service that includes classics and originals not just from Disney but Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. Pricing is $6.99 a month for a basic subscription (you can also get a 7-day free trial). There is also an option to combine Disney+ with Hulu and ESPN for $12.99 a month.
Compared to other streaming services, the monthly price is comparatively low. But does it offer the most value?
Comparitech.com compared the value of those four leaders in streaming and found that Amazon offers the biggest library of titles by far. Even with its higher price, the cost-per-title was the lowest.
Disney+ $6.99
610 titles
Cost per title: $0.01146
Amazon Prime $12.99
25074 titles
Cost per title: $0.00052
Netflix $8.99
5281 titles
Cost per title: $0.00170
Hulu $5.99
2702 titles
Cost per title: $0.00222
From the Comparitech website:
“Despite Amazon Prime being the most expensive per month, the total number of titles in its library sets it head and shoulders above the rest. With a total library size of 25,074, it offers over 190 percent more titles than Disney+, 161 percent more than Hulu, and 130 percent more than Netflix.”
However, Disney+ does have an extensive back catalog of movies (dating back to the 40s) and includes some originals. Depending on your preferences, this may be what you’re looking for.

Disney+ is FREE for certain Verizon customers
Did you know that some Verizon customers can get Disney+ for free for one year? There are some rumors going around that all Verizon customers can get it for free, but to clarify, only some plans are eligible.
From their website: “Eligible plans include the Verizon Unlimited plan, Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Above Unlimited, Get More Unlimited, Do More Unlimited, Play More Unlimited, and Start Unlimited. Business accounts are not eligible.”
Don’t know what to choose?
All are good options, but I myself have Amazon Prime and have been happy with it because it includes not just movies but music, free 2-day shipping, discounts at Whole Foods and other benefits. But there are ways to save on an Amazon Prime membership, particularly if you are a student or an EBT or Medicaid cardholder. You can also save if you’re in the military around Veterans Day.
Otherwise, I would watch for deals around Black Friday!

Library
Alternatively, remember that you can get many DVDs at your local library! We still get movies at the library because they’re free and you can keep them for a week.

Netflix anytime. To get more value out of it you can get a vpn for it and access region specific content. I just subscribed to purevpn myself since there was an 82% off on it
