3 Reasons to Visit Spirit Mountain in Duluth this Winter – and a Giveaway!
It’s time for everything snow in Minnesota, which reminds me of our awesome visit to Spirit Mountain last winter. We went tubing (including glow tubing!), ate onsite and enjoyed a stay at the AmericInn of Proctor. It was a perfect winter weekend getaway!
So to kickoff the winter season (which of course really starts in November here in Minnesota), I’ve partnered with Spirit Mountain to give away a Sunday Family Day package with tickets for 4!
If you’ve never been to Spirit Mountain or haven’t visited for a while, there are many reasons to visit this winter besides skiing and tubing. Here are few fun reasons to bring the family up to Duluth this winter!
Three Reasons to Visit Spirit Mountain in Duluth
1. Snocross Snowmobile Races on Thanksgiving weekend
The 28th Annual Amsoil Duluth National Snocross snowmobile races will take place at Spirit Mountain on Thanksgiving weekend. It’s the region’s largest three-day snowmobile race and officially kicks off the Amsoil Championship Snocross series.
What is Snocross? It’s the most exciting, fan-friendly form of snowmobile racing. The word “Snocross” is a combination of “snowmobile” and “motocross.” It combines the big-air jumps and exciting action of motocross with the crisp winter environment, providing snowbelt race fans with race action, world class athletes to cheer, and fun, family venues to visit. Duluth is the only three-day event besides the Grand Finale, so it’s a popular choice for a spectator venue.
During the event, Spirit Mountain will transform into a winter wonderland. The Skyline Chalet at Spirit Mountain provides a spectacular venue for racing. It features indoor viewing of the entire track, several food and beverage locations, reserved seating available and family-friendly ticket specials.
This year Spirit Mountain has many ways for families to enjoy the holiday weekend snowmobile race series for less with discounted packages for HEROS, Kids and Families. Here are some details:
- Kids get in FREE on Friday, November 29th with the purchase of an adult ticket. Simply ask for the “Free Youth” special at the ticket counter.
- The “Sunday Family Day” package is a great way for families to save. Available Sunday, December 1st at $99, it includes two adult, two youth or student tickets, and special hamburger meal per person. The package offers a savings of over $100
- The “HERO Ticket” is available for active Military and First Responders and offered as a single day or three-day weekend ticket. A single daily ticket is $25 per person (a savings of $15) and a three-day ticket, per person is $55 (a savings of $50)

2. Bentleyville “Tour of Lights” Display from November 23rd to December 28th
Having grown up in Duluth, and having family and friends to visit there, our family has visited Bentleyville since it began in November 2009. We love how it’s grown and has become truly a destination for visitors throughout the region and beyond.
Bentleyville is located in Bayfront Park in Duluth – it’s right near the highway as you drive into the city. Admission is FREE and always has been, which makes it even more popular and loved. If you park in their lot though you can expect to pay $5, which goes to the nonprofit attraction.
This is a huge walk-through light display and you can get free hot chocolate, free cookies, free popcorn and roasted marshmallows that you can roast yourself. Santa and other characters are there for photo opportunities. Santa and Mrs. Claus even parachute into Bentleyville on opening night!
And Spirit Mountain and the AmericInn of Proctor are just 5 minutes away by highway.
3. Fourth Graders Ski Free!
I’ve posted before that Fourth Graders in Minnesota can SKI FOR FREE at participating ski areas. Spirit Mountain participates in this program, and parents and siblings of passport holders can receive $10 off full day lift tickets here. (Learn more on Spirit Mountain’s website.) Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance though!
If you have a fourth grader in the family, this is a great reason to visit Spirit Mountain! They can ski for free and you can ski for less!
