It’s almost 2018, but there’s still fun to be had in the Twin Cities this year! Previously I shared some local family events happening during winter break. Here are some events happening the weekend of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day!
Friday, December 29th
Family Friday “New Year’s Eve” Party. Midtown Global Market, . 5:30 – 7:30pm. Live music by the Roe Family singers. FREE.
Saturday, December 30th
Night Trains. Twin City Model Railroad Museum, 668 Transfer Road, Suite 8, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55114. 6:00 – 9:00pm. Night Trains season is a special Holidays tradition at the Twin City Model Railroad Museum beginning the Saturday, November 4, 2017 and running every Saturday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 pm through the last Saturday in February (February 24, 2018). Admission to this special show is $15.00 per person and FREE for children age four and under. Discounted group rates are also available for groups of four or more (max 10).
Sunday, December 31st – New Year’s Eve
Kids Club Noon Year’s Eve Party at Pinstripes Edina. 10:00am – 12:00pm. Gather with friends and family for the ultimate “Noon” Year’s Eve Celebration! A $10 ticket includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, NYE party favors, a sparkling cider toast at noon, and a $5 off brunch voucher. Enjoy their Sunday Brunch buffet during the party, or head over to the bistro for brunch after the fun! Brunch is not included in admission price.
New Year’s Eve Colorful Celebration. (Save $6 per ticket with my link below!) Crayola Experience, Mall of America. 10:00am – 6:00pm. Ring in the New Year with themed crafts, hourly Annual Pass giveaways, character appearances, free popcorn and afternoon countdowns filled with confetti! Noon Years Eve at Como Zoo. St. Paul. On December 31 and January 1 from 10am – 1pm the Visitor Center at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory will be filled with family-friendly entertainment for a special Noon Year’s Party. Come for the games, dancing and music from the DJs of Kidsdance. There will be crafts, zookeeper talks, giveaways, contests and a countdown to NOON when hundreds of beach balls will be dropped from the ceiling at not one, but two locations! That’s right! There’s a special beach ball drop zone added specifically for the wee little ones 5 and under.
Family New Year’s Eve Fest. Champlin Ice Forum, 12165 Ensign Ave N Champlin. 2:00pm- 5:00pm. DJ open skating, face painting, horse drawn trolley rides, bonfire, games and contests, kids crafts, MN Wild Nordy and balloon drop. Over $1,000 in prizes!
New Year’s Eve on Ice. Roseville. 2:30pm – 10:00pm. Ring in the New Year on Ice! Bring your family and meet your friends at the Roseville Skating Center. Join us at the Midwest’s largest skating party on Wednesday, December 31. The fun begins at 2:30 and goes until 10:00 p.m. Skate indoors in the arena or outdoors on the 110,000 square foot OVAL. Warm up in the banquet area, try the bounce castle and get your face painted. Take a chance to win great door prizes. Enjoy concessions and the company of other skaters while toasting your toes at the bonfire. Admission: $7.00. NYE on ICE Special: Admission & Skate Rental for $10.
Horse-Drawn Wagonette Rides. Main Street, Stillwater,MN. 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Come to the Pedestrian Plaza in Historic Downtown Stillwater for FREE horse-drawn Victorian Wagonette rides!
New Year’s Eve Party. Kids Oasis, Stillwater. 4:00 – 7:00pm. Join us for our family friendly New Years Eve Party! Bring the family and enjoy a pizza buffet for dinner, play family games, make a special craft together and ring in the New Year with our balloon countdown! Early enough for the kiddos and enough time to keep grown up plans for later! A big hit last year and fills quickly so grab your tickets early. Cost is $45 per family up to 4 people. $9.95 for ages 3 and up. Additional children ages 2 and under are no charge. Cost includes the buffet,noisemakers, hats, crafts and fun! Tickets go on sale December 1st at 9 am. Family New Year’s Eve Party. Shoreview Community Center. 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Bring the whole family to Shoreview’s annual New Year’s Eve Party! Your night will be filled with DJ music, bingo, inflatables, face painting, and more! We’ll ring in the New Year with two balloon drops at 7:45pm. Admission includes access to the waterpark, indoor playground, and all activities offered throughout the evening. Concessions are available for an additional fee at the Wave Cafe. Walk-ins are welcome, but register by December 30th and save! Price is $12 per person at the door. Doors open at 5pm the night of the event.
Candlelight & Ice New Year’s Eve Program. Wood Lake Nature Center, 6710 Lake Shore Dr S, Richfield. 5:00pm – 9:00pm. Make this your family’s tradition! Celebrate the New Year at Wood Lake with family and friends! Follow hundreds of candle-lit luminaries on a walking trail through cattails and trees while on the lookout for deer, coyote, and owls. Roast marshmallows over a crackling fire, warm up inside with hot cocoa, make a craft, play a game, and enjoy the brisk winter evening. No pre-registration; doors open at 5:00 pm.
New Year’s Eve Celebration. Silverwood Park, St. Anthony. 5:30pm – 7:00pm. Hats off to 2017! Create a festive hat, visit the photo booth with your family, and roast marshmallows. New Year’s Eve Moon Light Circus. Nickelodeon Universe, Mall of America. 6:00pm – 12:00am. Join our Ringleader for a New Year’s Countdown complete with lights, music, party favors + a ball drop! There will be live entertainment by Xelias Aerial Studio including contortion, juggling, unicycle + aerial fabric will be performing in the Rotunda, meet + greets with your favorite Nickelodeon Characters, giveaways + more! Puttin’ on the Ritz New Year’s Eve Party. Minnesota Children’s Museum, St. Paul. 6:00pm – 9:00pm. FEATURING: Live music with Will Hale and the Tadpole Parade, holiday art projects, cookie decorating and a countdown to 8 p.m. with a HUMAN BALL DROP provided by Twin Cities Trapeze. Event price includes admission, all activities and light refreshments.
Monday, January 1st – New Year’s Day
FREE First Day Hikes at one of 14 Minnesota State Parks. Join a Minnesota state park naturalist for a one-and-a-half to three-hour guided hike through a park. You’ll burn off some of those holiday calories, cure cabin fever, and enjoy the winter landscape and wildlife. First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to get people outdoors, with over 400 hikes scheduled this year in all 50 states. Kids and adults all across America will be participating in First Day Hikes, getting their hearts pumping and enjoying the beauty of a state park.
