Crayola Experience Mall of America Review & 6 Ways to Save on Admission

The Crayola Experience is NOW open at the Mall of America! My family and I have visited twice already, and we loved it both times.

The Crayola Experience is located on the 3rd floor and if you park on the 3rd floor of the East ramp toward the south side, you can go through a special Crayola-themed entrance and hallway that lead you directly to the attraction.

The Crayola Experience is 60,000 square feet and has two components: Crayola Experience, a family attraction featuring 25 hands-on activities inspired by Crayola products and technologies, and The Crayola Store, which has the world’s largest selection of Crayola products and unique souvenirs, such as plush and apparel.  

This is the third Crayola Experience to open – the other two locations are in Easton, PA and Orlando, FL.

With so many activities, it’s typical for families to spend about 4 hours here. We spent 2 hours here each visit and still haven’t seen and done it all! But some of our favorite activities include:

Wrap It Up! – Name and wrap your own crayon

Be A Star – Star in your own coloring page
Art Alive – Create digital works of art and project them onto the wall to become part of a bigger scene

Color Magic – Bring your coloring page to 4-D life and animate it with your touch
Live Factory Show – Learn how crayons are made in a live, interactive show. (There are subtitles in French and Spanish and the number on the wall is how many Crayola crayons have ever been made!)

Meltdown – Paint with melted wax

You Design – Color, scan & digitally accessorize your car or fashion design to your unique style, then show it off in the spotlight

Modeling Madness – Sculpt colorful creations using Crayola Model Magic (the clay can be purchased with a token)

There’s a Color Playground – It’s a 2-story playground with a melted wax tower, a paint bridge, a Pip Squeak marker and more.

There’s also a Toddler Town just for the little ones.

In the attraction there’s a cafe and a candy store. The food is a bit pricey, though. We didn’t eat there but if you get hungry during your visit, there are options for meals and snacks. If you prefer, you can get your hand stamped to eat elsewhere in the mall and come back.

And of course, there’s the Crayola Experience retail store with tons of fun souvenirs.

What else do you need to know?

Tokens – When you enter, you’ll get a bag to put your creations in (which make great keepsakes) and some tokens. You’ll need the tokens to do the Wrap it Up! and Modeling Madness activities, and can buy more for $.50 each.

Groups and Parties – Groups of all sizes are welcome, and groups of 15 or more with advanced reservations receive a discount.

Want to Visit?

Admission is $22.99 – 24.99 per person. I think it’s a bit pricey and have heard other parents agree – especially since parents to have to pay too. But I can say that I as a parent had fun, too! Plus there are many discounts out there – here are 6 you should know!

4. Find the coupon in your Valpak mailing (if you receive these at home) and save $5 per ticket.
5. Visit after 4:00 p.m. and save 50% off admission. (They close daily at 7:00 p.m.)
