Welcome to a new series I’m created here at Twin Cities Frugal Mom: Twin Cities Small Business Spotlight, featuring small business owners in the Twin Cities metro area whose businesses offer goods or services that appeal to moms and families!
My first featured business owner is Katie Shoemaker, Massage Therapist. I’ve known Katie and her family from my church for several years. Katie has been my own massage therapist for a couple years, and in fact, I came up with the idea for this series while getting a massage from her this summer! I thought that others, especially moms, should know what a great job she does and what a friendly, likable person she is. Seriously, what mom doesn’t need a good massage every once in a while?
I also thought of others I know with their own businesses that deserve to be promoted – they’ll be featured next, and everyone will be asked the same questions. I like to support small, local businesses, not just on “Small Business Saturday” (the day after Black Friday) but all year round. If you have a business or know someone in the Twin Cities area who does, please contact me at twincitiesfrugalmom@gmail.com to be featured in an upcoming post!
Now, allow me to introduce Katie!
1) Tell me what your businesses are and what you do.
I am a Massage Therapist. I opened my own office in downtown Hamel, and still go to people’s homes in the metro area when needed (Lisa here: Katie does bring her own massage table and everything else needed! It’s wonderful!). I also sell a top line of skincare & cosmetics, vitamins and the oldest line of green household cleaning products.
2) What training did you receive?
I got my schooling & education in massage at Sister Rosalind Gefre’s school of massage.
3) What kinds of clients do you serve?
I work with a variety of people: athletes, mothers, business owners, and everybody in-between. (Lisa here: Katie told me at least half of her clients are moms – I’m not surprised!)
4) What do you like best about the work you do?
I love to help people. God has given me a drive for helping people, whether it’s just too help someone relax, work with injuries and scar tissue, or helping someone figure out which vitamins would help them best.
5) What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?
I’m a crafter. I make rugs the most, but I love to figure out new crafts, and with the holidays approaching I will be making lefse soon too. I always joke that with all the stuff I do I’m a 50-year-old stuck in a 26-year-old body (haha). It doesn’t help that one of my favorite actors is Bing Crosby. I also enjoy traveling, for several years I have gone on my church’s mission trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. And two years ago while on our mission trip we visited the Wild Horse sanctuary and I loved spending the time with the horses there.
6) Do you have any specials or deals for new customers?
Anyone who books their massage or purchases a gift card by Dec 13th and mentions “Twin Cities Frugal Mom” will get $20 off their massage at my office in Hamel.
Katie can be reached at katieshoe87@gmail.com or 612-916-0403. (Also look on my site for her ad “Peacemaking Massage.”)
Thanks, Katie!
