What do we Moms really want for mother’s day?
My FANTASY Mother’s Day wish list
1. An extra few hours every day to get things done. I swear I barely touched #1 on my to-do list before I collapse in bed each night. But if that’s not possible…
2. A lifetime membership to Caribou Coffee with unlimited coffee drinks & flavorings of my choice. Even if the fee was $10,000 a year, I think this would be worth it!
3. A self-cleaning house. Okay, so they can send people into space, build cars that drive themselves, but can’t create something that can clean itself other than an oven?
4. My pre-pregnancy body. What the heck happened to my metabolism?
5. A handbook for my kids. No, not just any kids. MY kids. Because NO, I do NOT know what to do when one of my kids is having a screaming meltdown in the middle of Supertarget. They were fine when I went in. How was I supposed to know that having to pick the healthier Yoplait Simply Go-gurt that’s on sale over the sugary Dannon “Monkey” yogurt was going to create my 4-year-old’s crisis of the century? (And my 1-year-old can get out of anything, including the “seatbelt” on a shopping cart. Talk about mommy multitasking!)
Okay, so none of these are gonna happen.
That’s fine. Honestly, I know I’m lucky in so many ways. I have 2 beautiful, healthy kids and I’m thankful to God for them each and every day. And I really don’t want much in terms of “presents” for Mother’s Day. Here’s my more REALISTIC list:
My REAL Mother’s Day Wish List
1. A full day to just have fun as a family, doing whatever. My husband and I are so busy with our work schedules that we rarely get more than a few hours together as a family. During these times we go to the park or zoo or something. A great Mother’s Day would be a full day – not just a few hours – just having fun as a family, whatever we do (as long as everyone gets along!).
2. A massage. From all I’ve read and heard, there are probably about 1000 reasons to get massages regularly, not even including the fact that THEY FEEL SO GOOD! This is why I’ve been getting massages regularly (every couple of months or so). I realize I need and benefit from them now as a mom more than ever before. Plus I have a great masseuse who does massages for clients in their Twin Cities area home or workplace (I have them done at my workplace.) She’s a member of my church, her rates are affordable ($1 a minute), she’s professional, she brings all her equipment and I highly recommend her (Katie Shoemaker, CMT – firstname.lastname@example.org or 612-916-0403).
3. A day that my family NOTICES and appreciates all I do around the house, and takes over for me. I’d just like to not have to wash dishes, do laundry and pick up toys everywhere for a day. (I think I speak for all moms!)
4. To be served & pampered. No, not as a queen or anything. But in any simple way. Like my kids just bringing me my slippers, or my hubby cooking a meal (he cooks well!). Even just getting my hair brushed by my hubby! (Ooooh…There’s just something SO nice about getting your hair brushed!)
5. After the above four wishes are “granted,” I’d want some time for myself, or for just for my husband and me. Time to read, create, enjoy a gym or spa…anything that makes me feel RENEWED…not like the busy mom with the messy hair, messy purse, & dazed and exhausted look that I feel like I’ve become!
What does a mom REALLY want for Mother’s Day? Flowers, candy, jewelry, and other girly things like that are great, and lots of moms like those things. I think those things are nice, but clearly whatever moms get, what they really want is to feel special. We definitely DESERVE it!!!!!
