ALDI has launched their own line of natural and organic food called “Simply Nature” this month.
I shop at ALDI about once a week, and occasionally see natural and organic name-brand foods there as “special buys,” including Nature’s Path cereals and Annie’s Organic frozen meals at ALDI’s signature low prices. But now ALDI is trying out their own line of natural and organic foods.
My response? IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!!!
I noticed the display of products near the check-out lanes at my local ALDI last week. There weren’t many, but they are all made with natural ingredients and contain no artificial flavors or colors, and include Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips, Diced Tomatoes, and Pasta Sauces (Tomato & Basil, and Marinara). The display also included Horizon Organic brand chocolate milk in packages individual boxed portions.
I bought the Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips, pasta sauces, and Horizon brand chocolate milk (the kids love ’em).
So far, these tortilla chips are now my FAVORITE. Unfortunately they come in a small bag (7.5 ounces), so they got eaten up fast (I actually just went back to get more!). But their flavor is bolder than regular tortilla chips, which I think makes them better.
Unfortunately, these new organic foods are only being tested out for now. A spokesperson for ALDI said “Theoretically, if the items perform well in store, [the range] will launch as a new line sometime next year,” the spokesperson said, adding that “no firm date has been set” (source: just-food.com).
So moms and everyone else – if you’re like me and you want low-cost organic food at your local ALDI, go and buy these foods!
Organic 100% Apple Juice (64 oz) – $2.49
Organic 100% Apple Juice Boxes (3 pack, 6.75 oz each) – $1.49
Organic Diced Tomatoes (28 oz) – $1.69
Organic Pasta Sauce, Tomato Basil or Marinara (25 oz) – $1.99
Organic Premium Coffee (17.6 oz) – $5.99
Organic Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips (7.5 oz) – $1.99
Because ALDI has carried primarily conventional (non-organic) foods, I usually get the organic foods I do want for my family at SuperTarget and Trader Joe’s. But if ALDI introduces (and keeps) more and more of these foods, I’ll be buying more groceries there. I’ve actually been wondering when ALDI would finally catch up with the growing number of consumers (especially moms like us!) who want healthful and natural foods at low prices!
Let’s encourage ALDI to keep and expand their new line of natural and organic foods. Visit Aldi’s website for more information about them and their locations.
